MNET Services>Telecom Video>Video Conferencing>FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)

Will an point-to-point connection within the MN.IT video network need to be scheduled using the video reservations system?

No. Scheduling a conference through MN.IT's system enables us to be aware of your event and prepare for it. If problems arise during the event, we are able to help you faster since we already have the information about the event. Also, events scheduled through MN.IT's system receive priority service in the event of problems and, for collaboration project sites, receive prority in scheduling.

Are events controlled automatically or manually?

Connections are made automatically where possible or manually where not.

How many sites can be part of an event?

A given event can have over 100 sites.

What does Quality of Service (QoS) mean?

It is a method of configuring our network equipment so that the IP video packets receive priority handling on the link from your site to the backbone, within the backbone, and out to the other end's site. For calls involving off-MNET locations, we maintain the priority as far as possible.

What is 'Audio Training?'

A process whereby the system automatically adjusts echo cancellation and audio levels in the room every ten to fifteen seconds. If you experience echo, you can correct it by adjusting the incoming volume to a comfortable level and speaking to the far end for ten seconds or so. The echo should go away. Contact MN.IT or the Host Site Coordinator immediately if any problems persist.

What are the default data rates?

The default rate varies among sites. We support defaults of both 384kbps and 768kbps.
