MN.IT frequently connections events to sites that are off the state's network. Off-MNET sites are only a little different to use than regular sites: the first time any given off-MNET site is used, it must be registered with MN.IT.
The first time an off-MNET site is used, it must be registered with MN.IT. This process can take a few days, so we appreciate as much notice as possible. Registering a site allows us to record the contact information, make contact with the site's provider, test it, record audio levels, and identify any compatability issues in time to resolve them. Test time is usually one half hour in length, but may run longer due to various technical configuration differences. The one-time certification charge still applies. Once a site has been registed with us, MN.IT is confident that future uses of that site will be successful.
The first step is to complete our Off-MNET Facility Profile Request form as best you can. This form provides us with the information that we need to identify the site, its provider, and its configuration. You may not know all of the answers: that's OK. Fill out what you can and we will work with you to obtain the rest of the information.
The second step is for MN.IT's technical staff to schedule a test. During the test, we will connect to the site and confirm that the equipment will work well. While you will be notified of the test time, you don't normally need to be involved in the actual testing (although the remote site will). If we do run into problems, we will contact you and determine the best way to handle them.
Finally, MN.IT will record the results of the test and assign an MN.IT site name. You use this site name when scheduling the site into events.
