MNET Services>Telecom Video>Equipment>Polycom>Initial Configuration

The LAN (Ethernet) wire plugs into a port on the back that has an Icon that looks like a little network. On an FX and VS there is an adjacent port which can be used to connect a PC. This icon looks like a little computer.

All H.323 systems need the following items configured in order to be able to make and accept video over IP calls using E.164 dialing (these are all assigned by MN.IT):

  • E.164 phone number. This is a 10-digit real-world phone number. It is assigned by MN.IT.
  • A site name. The site name is assigned by MN.IT.
  • Statically assigned IP address. The IP address is assigned by MN.IT.
  • Subnet mask. This value is supplied by MN.IT.
  • Default gateway. This value is supplied by MN.IT.
  • Gatekeeper IP address. This value is supplied by MN.IT.
  • Speed and duplex of the system's Ethernet interface. This should be 100/full.

IP Configuration

To configure the:

  • Statically assigned IP address,
  • Subnet mask,
  • Default gateway, and
  • Speed and duplex of the system’s Ethernet interface,

pick up the remote and use the arrow keys to highlight System Info and press the Enter key. The "O" icon in the center of the arrow keys is used as the Enter key.

Then, use the arrow keys to highlight the Admin Setup item and press the Enter key.

Systems should have passwords assigned. Please be sure that MN.IT has the correct password on file.

Use the arrow keys to highlight the LAN/H.323 item and press the Enter key.

Use the arrow keys to highlight the LAN/Intranet item and press the Enter key.

If applicable, use the arrow keys to highlight the LAN/Intranet item again and press the Enter key.

Uncheck the WINS Resolution and DHCP items: both should be cleared.

Set the appropriate IP address as supplied by MN.IT. Use the right-arrow key to enter a period.

DNS Servers should be set to whatever the local site uses on their computers. Otherwise they can be set to 156.98.1.1 (primary) and 207.171.71.71 (secondary).

Set the appropriate default gateway. This value will have been supplied by MN.IT.

Set the appropriate subnet mask. This value will have been supplied by MN.IT.

Leave the WINS Server IP set to 0.0.0.0.

Press the * key on the remote and set the LAN Speed to 100Mbps and the duplex to Full. These settings must match the settings of the network device it is directly connected to. There will be times when you will be unable to force the 100Mbps Full duplex settings due to other equipment in the path. On VS and FX models you can also set the speed and duplex of the computer port: these are normally left at auto for both settings.

After leaving this screen, the system should reboot. If not, boot it by power cycling.
